Contract Engineer – Mechanical Design & Prototype Development
We are looking for a motivated mechanical / manufacturing / mechatronics engineer to take responsibility for the development of an industrial hydraulic wood splitter from an existing concept through detailed engineering, fabrication and prototype testing. This is a fixed-term project contract, not a permanent employment position.
The project
The selected engineer will work on the practical development of the machine, including:
- Engineering calculations and design verification
- Mechanical and structural design
- Hydraulic system development
- CAD modelling and fabrication drawings
- Component selection and bill of materials
- Coordination with fabrication technicians
- Prototype assembly and supervision
- Testing, troubleshooting and design improvement
- Final engineering documentation and handover

Practical problem-solving ability, engineering fundamentals and willingness to work closely with technicians will be more important than years of experience alone.
Project support provided by Zonez Lanka
You will not be expected to build the machine alone.
Zonez Lanka will provide:

- Fabrication technicians and labour support
- Workshop / fabrication resources

- Accommodation
- Project-related support required for prototype development
Contract
Project value: LKR 200,000
Maximum project duration: 2 months
The engagement is project- and deliverable-based. Detailed technical scope, project milestones, KPIs and required engineering handover documentation will be discussed with shortlisted candidates before the contract is finalized.
