Responsibilities

Manager – ESG unit is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the bank’s ESG framework. The role ensures alignment of ESG initiatives with the bank’s strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and international sustainability standards while promoting a strong culture of sustainability and accountability across the bank.

The duties and responsibilities relevant to the position of Manager – ESG unit among others are:

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain the bank’s ESG strategy and ensure its alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory expectations.
  2. Coordinate ESG related initiatives across departments to promote a unified and organization-wide approach to ESG integration.
  3. Monitor and report on the bank’s environmental impact, social responsibility efforts, and governance practices in accordance with national and international ESG standards.
  4. Lead the preparation of the bank’s ESG disclosures, sustainability reports, and stakeholder communications.
  5. Serve as the central point of contact for internal and external ESG-related engagements, including regulators, investors, and rating agencies.
  6. Facilitate staff awareness, training, and capacity building on ESG matters to foster a culture of accountability and sustainability.
  7. Track emerging ESG trends, regulatory changes, and best practices, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  8. Support the bank in achieving its environmental and social commitments, such as reducing carbon footprint, promoting workplace diversity, and enhancing governance transparency.
  9. Ensure ESG data collection, analysis, and reporting processes are standardized, accurate, and audit ready.
  10. Assist in setting ESG performance indicators and monitoring progress towards defined ESG goals and targets.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

Academic / professional qualifications

  1. Should possess a bachelor’s degree from a university or a degree awarding institute recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka in one or more of the following fields:
  2. Environmental management, sustainability management, business administration, finance / banking, economics, risk management, accounting, law, social science or any other related discipline.
  3. And
  4. Should possess a certificate or diploma in ESG/sustainability from a recognized professional body.
  5. A master’s degree from a university or a degree awarding institute recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka in sustainability, ESG, finance, business administration, environmental science, or a related field will be an added advantage.
  6. Preference will be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following qualifications/trainings/certifications:
  7. Professional qualifications from recognized institutions such as:
  8. Institute of chartered accountants of Sri Lanka
  9. Chartered financial analyst institute
  10. Institute of bankers of Sri Lanka
  11. The chartered institute of management accountants
  12. Training or certifications
  13. ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, IFRS sustainability standards)
  14. Corporate governance
  15. Sustainability finance
  16. Climate risk or environmental risk management
  17. Compliance and regulatory reporting

Experience

  1. Should possess minimum of 1-5 years’ post degree-qualifying experience in ESG, sustainability, corporate governance, risk management, compliance, banking, finance, or related areas.
  2. Sound understanding of ESG principles and sustainable banking practices.
  3. Familiarity with:
  4. Central bank of Sri Lanka guidelines and regulatory expectations relating to sustainability and governance.
  5. International ESG frameworks and reporting standards.
  6. Environmental and social risk assessment methodologies.
  7. ESG performance monitoring and reporting processes.

Role specific competencies

  1. Sound knowledge of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, sustainability practices, and reporting frameworks.
  2. Strong data analysis, interpretation, and reporting skills.
  3. Proven project management abilities with effective stakeholder engagement and coordination skills.
  4. Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  5. Good understanding of climate change, sustainability initiatives, and applicable ESG-related regulations and compliance requirements.
  6. Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines and priorities simultaneously.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Age

  1. Age should be 45 years or below as at closing date of application.

Method of selection

Shortlisted applicants based on the stipulated qualifications and experience will be called for an interview. The appointment will be made on contract basis.

Conditions of employment

The position of Manager – ESG unit is in the non-banking stream equivalent to the grade of Manager (3-I). The performance will be evaluated annually.

Remuneration

An attractive and negotiable remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered to the selected candidate for the above position.
