Test automation architect

Closing on: Apr 1, 2027

About the role

We’re looking for a test automation architect to own quality engineering across our platform. You’ll design our test automation infrastructure from the ground up, define how we test, and embed quality into our CI/CD pipelines. This is a senior, high-visibility role. You’ll work directly with the company’s top management to shape quality strategy and align it with business and regulatory priorities.

What you’ll do

  • Design the test automation architecture: frameworks, tooling, test data strategy, environments and reporting across web, mobile and API layers.
  • Define and roll out the testing process: test strategy, test levels, entry/exit criteria, defect workflow, quality gates and release sign-off.
  • Own test coverage end to end: define coverage targets across unit, API, UI, mobile, performance, security and accessibility layers; maintain traceability from requirements to tests; identify and close gaps; and report coverage and risk to leadership.
  • Build CI/CD test infrastructure: integrate automated suites into pipelines, set up parallel execution, test environments and fast feedback loops.
  • Lead API testing for banking services, integrations and middleware, covering contract, functional, negative and security scenarios.
  • Drive mobile testing for iOS and Android banking apps, including device coverage and automation strategy.
  • Own performance testing with k6: load, stress and soak testing for transaction-heavy banking flows.
  • Embed security testing aligned with OWASP (top 10, API security, MASVS for mobile) into the delivery life cycle.
  • Establish accessibility testing: define WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA compliance standards for web and mobile banking channels, automate checks in CI/CD, and set up manual audits with assistive technologies.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: work closely with business analysts to turn requirements into testable scenarios, and with developers to build testability into the code, shift testing left and share ownership of quality.
  • Report to and advise leadership on quality metrics, risk assessments, release readiness and investment recommendations.
  • Mentor and grow QA engineers and developers in automation best practices.

What you bring

  • 10+ years in QA / test engineering, with at least 3 years in a test automation architect or lead role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and Type Script (or comparable tools, e.g. Cypress, Selenium, WebdriverIO, Java/JavaScript).
  • Performance testing with k6 (or JMeter, Gatling).
  • Practical knowledge of OWASP security testing practices and tools (e.g. ZAP, Burp suite).
  • Experience with accessibility testing against WCAG guidelines, using tools such as axe-core (e.g. @axe-core/playwright), lighthouse or Pally, plus manual testing with screen readers (VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA).
  • Solid API testing experience: REST/SOAP, Postman, contract testing, authentication flows (OAuth2, JWT).
  • Mobile test automation experience (Appium, Detox, Maestro or similar) on iOS and Android.
  • Proven experience setting up CI/CD infrastructure (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI), including Docker and test environment management.
  • Track record of designing test automation infrastructure and test processes from scratch.
  • Experience defining and tracking test coverage metrics (requirements traceability, risk-based coverage, code coverage) and using them to drive quality decisions.
  • Experience working closely with business analysts, developers, DevOps and product teams in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable presenting to and working with senior leadership.

Nice to have

  • Experience in banking, fintech or payments (e.g. LankaPay, card/payment systems).
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for financial software.
  • Familiarity with accessibility regulations such as the European Accessibility Act (EAA) or similar requirements for financial services.
  • Test management tools (Azure Test Plans, Xray, TestRail).
  • Experience with AI-assisted testing tools.
  • ISTQB advanced / test automation engineer certification.
