Junior Accountant

Position summary

The junior accountant will be responsible for assisting with financial record-keeping, tax compliance, account reconciliations, and reporting activities. The ideal candidate should have prior exposure to the construction industry and possess practical knowledge of value added tax (VAT) and social security contribution levy (SSCL) requirements in Sri Lanka.

Key responsibilities

1. Maintain accurate accounting records and financial transactions.
2. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
3. Prepare supplier payments and customer invoicing.
4. Assist with monthly bank reconciliations and ledger reconciliations.
5. Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records.
6. Assist in preparing VAT and SSCL calculations, schedules, and statutory submissions.
7. Monitor project-related expenses and assist in cost tracking for construction projects.
8. Coordinate with project teams to obtain supporting documents for financial transactions.
9. Support the finance manager in day-to-day accounting and administrative activities.

Requirements & qualifications

1. Diploma, higher diploma, or degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
2. Minimum 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
3. Sound knowledge of VAT regulations and SSCL requirements in Sri Lanka.
4. Familiarity with accounting software.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
6. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
7. Good communication and organizational abilities.
8. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
