Assistant Accountant — Anticipatory Action (AA) Project

Job Profile

  • The position is responsible for high-quality, accurate, and consistent financial support for the project.
  • He/she will also support the financial procurement to achieve its optimal usage and eventual reporting to World Vision Lanka (WVL) management and stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities

  • Train and/ or upgrade the knowledge and skills of the project staff on the grant requirement and relevant World Vision accounting policies, procedures, methodologies, and systems.
  • Verify each transaction to ensure they are budgeted, allowable and within the grant requirement, before being processed,
  • Actively contribute as a member of the purchasing committee and ensure that the grant requirements are complied with for all purchases.
  • Prepare and submit donor-specified reports as per the Donor compliance requirements.
  • Prepare an Annual Budget Implementation Plan for field activities in accordance with the donor-specified template.
  • Update the project team on project spending status with analysis during the team discussion.
  • Monthly Ledger verification and necessary corrections are done within the month before monthly accounts finalization.
  • Support the operational staff at the field office in preparing the Annual Procurement Plan.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience in a similar capacity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of handling Grant/ donor funding under the required regulatory environment.
  • Part qualification from a recognized accounting body (CA Sri Lanka, CIMA) or a University Degree in Finance.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and demands.
  • Perform work with less supervision.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English and Tamil.
