Farm Manager

SAN TANI Wellness Resort and Spa is a world-class high-end luxury boutique hotel situated on a 120-acre estate in the village of Werapitiya which is located in Teldeniya. The estate consists of Santana tea, an agro-forest, a natural forest, a polytunnel, a horticultural farm, a poultry farm, and a dairy.

We are looking for a qualified Farm Manager with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar capacity. The farm Manager should be able to develop and execute a plan to sustainably maximize profits from agro-forestry, horticulture farming, dairy, and the polytunnel. His/her responsibilities include monitoring staff, crops, and livestock, purchasing supplies, preparing budgets and reports, and ensuring maximum profit. He or she should be able to maintain professional networks and keep abreast of developments in agricultural science, especially in integrated and organic farming. He or she should be detail-oriented but also keep the bigger picture in mind. Outstanding candidates are keen problem solvers who are focused on productivity and efficiency, take a hands-on approach to management, are dynamic, and are willing to try out new approaches and learn.

Responsibilities

• Analyzing existing operations, crops, livestock, staff, and expenditures and recommending improvements
• Preparing plans and schedules for planting and harvesting and optimizing staff input accordingly
• Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are used efficiently and sparingly
• Handling the marketing and sale of products produced on the farm including fruits, spices, vegetables, dairy, and poultry
• Recruitment and training of new staff members
• Collaborating with Directors to prepare plans and budgets and track expenditures

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Basic degree or diploma in agriculture, animal science, or equivalent
• Hand-on experience with Farm Management
• Experience and/or training in Organic Agriculture
• Experience and/or training in technology-based agriculture (drip irrigation, polytunnels, etc)
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Preferred Additional Qualifications and Experience
• Experience and/or training in Dairy Farming
• Experience and/or training in Agroforestry
• Experience and/or training in other forms of Animal Husbandry
