Librarian

Job Purpose:

You are responsible for managing the library at the campus. You will create an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive and also
you will be an excellent communicator who encourages and promotes enthusiasm in others. The main purpose of the role is to ensure that students
and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Registering and updating member profiles in the library system
• Issuing and accepting of materials with records
• Sending out notices / reminders and accepting fine payments for lost or overdue books to the members
• Handling delayed returns
• Promoting the library’s resources to users
• Selecting, developing, cataloguing and classifying library resources
• Answering readers’ enquiries
• Using library systems and specialist computer applications
• Liaising with departmental academic staff, external organisations and suppliers
• Ensuring that library services meet the needs of particular groups of users (e.g., staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, disabled students)
• Supporting independent research and learning
• Assisting readers to use computer equipment, conduct literature searches, etc.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree in Library Science from a recognized University/Higher Education institute with 4 years’ experience in Library Management

Skills and requirements:

• Knowledge of library methods and procedures
• Knowledge and experience with digital tools for the library
• Excellent interpersonal skills and friendly personality
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and ability to work under pressure
• Ability to work in a team and communicate well with the organization
• Familiarity with reference resources
• Ability to show good judgment in effectively serving the needs of patrons is required.
• Ability to work effectively in peak periods is required
