Head of academic quality & standards

Main purpose of the role

The head of academic quality and standards will ensure that all academic provision delivered or developed at the branch campus is designed, approved, delivered, assessed, monitored, reviewed and continually enhanced in compliance with the University of West London’s academic framework, relevant UK higher education quality and standards requirements, and applicable regulatory obligations in Sri Lanka.

Responsibilities

• Lead the campus’ academic quality and standards function across a range of subject areas including biomedicine, business, computing, law, psychology and education.
• Course development, approval, modification, monitoring, review and closure.
• Assessment, moderation, examination boards and external examining.
• Academic integrity, misconduct, appeals and academic complaints.
• Annual quality monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Student feedback and use of quality/outcomes data.
• Academic risk management, academic governance and committee processes, staff approval, induction and academic development.
• Preparation for UWL reviews, audits and regulatory/professional-body scrutiny.
• Quality assurance of online and blended learning.
• Collaboration between the Sri Lankan campus and UWL teams in the UK.

Experience required

We are seeking an experienced higher education quality assurance and academic standards professional with:

• Substantial expertise in quality management, regulatory compliance, and enhancement within a higher education environment.
• Assessment and examinations, external examining, academic regulations, transnational education (TNE) experience.
• Experience of international university partnerships.
• Ability to challenge senior academics constructively, identify academic risks, analyse data and lead institutional improvement.

Essential qualifications

• A recognised master’s degree, or an equivalent combination of professional qualifications and substantial higher-education experience.
• In addition, the candidate needs substantial relevant professional experience and practical knowledge of UK higher-education quality and standards, including the principles of the UK quality code.
