Assistant Manager – Costing, Product Development & Technology
We are looking for a dynamic and analytical assistant manager – costing, product development & technology to join our team. This role will be responsible for driving accurate product costing, supporting new product development, identifying technology and process improvements, and ensuring commercially viable solutions are delivered in line with customer and business requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate product costing activities, ensuring accurate, timely and commercially sound cost calculations.
- Develop and maintain costing models covering materials, labour, overheads, manufacturing processes and value-added services.
- Analyse product specifications, BOMs, consumption, production methods and process requirements to identify cost drivers and opportunities for optimization.
- Collaborate closely with product development, production, engineering, merchandising, procurement, finance and quality teams to develop cost-effective products.
- Support the development of new products and product improvements from concept through sampling, validation and commercialization.
- Evaluate new materials, components, manufacturing techniques and technologies for cost, quality, functionality and scalability.
- Conduct should-cost, cost benchmarking and variance analysis and recommend appropriate cost-reduction opportunities.
- Drive value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives to improve product cost, productivity and profitability.
- Assess and introduce relevant technologies, tools, systems and automation solutions that improve product development and costing efficiency.
- Maintain accurate costing databases, product specifications and supporting documentation.
- Monitor changes in material prices, labour costs, manufacturing processes and technology and assess their impact on product costs.
- Prepare detailed costing reports, management information and commercial analysis to support decision-making.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve costing, technical and product-development issues.
- Ensure all product-development and costing activities comply with company standards, customer requirements and agreed timelines.
- Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency, data accuracy, speed-to-market and cross-functional collaboration.
- Support and mentor team members while promoting a culture of analytical thinking, innovation and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, manufacturing, product development, business, finance, or a related field.
- 4–6 years of relevant experience in costing, product development, manufacturing, engineering, technology or a similar commercial/technical environment.
- Strong understanding of product costing principles, BOMs, material consumption, manufacturing processes and cost structures.
- Demonstrated experience in new product development, value engineering and cost optimization.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret complex product and cost data.
- Good understanding of manufacturing technologies, process improvement and emerging technology applications.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel; experience with ERP, PLM, costing or product-development systems will be an advantage.
- Strong project coordination and stakeholder-management skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively across technical, commercial and operational teams.
- Strong attention to detail with a structured and data-driven approach to problem solving.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive mindset with a strong focus on innovation, continuous improvement and commercial results.
