10 reasons why happy people have more chances to get a job

I really enjoyed Gretchen Rubin’s post on LinkedIn where she asked readers to ask themselves if they make others happy. For me, it confirmed why being a happy person and attracting others with your positive attitude is one of the reasons “happiness magnets” get the best jobs.

A simple review of their quiz reveals 10 reasons why being a happiness magnet will help you in your job search:

01. People seem to feel comfortable confiding in you.
02. People follow your recommendations.
03. You are a source of material comfort or security for someone else.
04 .People you have introduced often form lasting relationships.
05. People seem to gravitate toward you, join in a conversation you are having, and sit next to you at a meeting.
06. You have recently been involved in improving or growing an organization, group or process that involves many other people.
07. You offer opportunities to other people – job offers, blind dates, contacts in a new city, and so on.
08. People you barely remember make the effort to greet you warmly (e.g., your old roommate’s friend or a former co-worker).
09. Many people seem to want to get in touch with you – by making plans or emailing you, calling you, or texting you.
10. People seem to be energized by you (i.e., they smile and laugh in your presence).

Happiness Magnet = More Helpful Network

Happy people have a magnetic effect on those around them. The more people are attracted to your happiness, the more likely they are to return the favor. In short, happy people are more likely to be recommended for jobs and introduced to influential people. In addition, their ability to make others happy is rewarded in the form of a more helpful network. Have you ever heard of the “hidden job market”? Well, happiness magnets are those who have access to this market.
