Manager – Climate Action
Janathakshan, a leading development organization advancing sustainable development, climate resilience, and inclusive development in Sri Lanka, is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Manager – Climate Action.
The Manager – Climate Action will support the planning, implementation, and management of climate action initiatives aligned with Janathakshan’s strategic priorities. The role will focus on climate adaptation, mitigation, resilience-building initiatives, and strengthening climate-responsive development pathways through effective project management and stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage implementation of climate adaptation and mitigation projects.
- Lead and manage project planning, budgeting, monitoring, and reporting processes.
- Coordinate with government institutions, development partners, communities, and technical experts.
- Facilitate stakeholder consultations and partnership-building initiatives.
- Contribute to technical studies, policy briefs, research outputs, and knowledge products.
- Monitor project performance and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
- Support learning, innovation, and evidence generation for climate programming.
Required qualifications and experience
- Master’s degree in climate science, environmental management, development studies, natural resource management, energy, agriculture, or related field.
- Professional qualifications or memberships in relevant fields will be considered an added advantage.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in climate adaptation and/or mitigation projects.
- Experience in donor-funded project management and stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge of climate policies, resilience frameworks, and sustainable development approaches.
Essential skills
- Strong project planning and coordination skills; excellent analytical, report-writing, and communication skills; knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) ‘project budget management and reporting skills; fluency in English and Sinhala (Tamil will be an advantage) and proficiency in MS Office and digital tools.
Required competencies
- Strong leadership and coordination abilities; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines; strong interpersonal and networking skills; problem-solving mindset with a collaborative approach and willingness to travel frequently to project locations.
