BSC invites applications for the position of head of computer science. We are seeking an inspiring and experienced educator to lead our computer science department, driving excellence in teaching, learning, and student outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator to advance their career within a leading international school in Colombo.
The role
As head of computer science, you will:
- Provide leadership and direction for the department, inspiring colleagues to achieve excellence.
- Lead curriculum planning, assessment, and teaching across KS3, IGCSE (computer science and ICT), and A level computer science.
- Use data to monitor student progress, identify barriers to learning, and implement interventions.
- Ensure high standards of teaching, pastoral care, and behaviour in the department.
- Prepare and implement the department improvement plan and SEF, contributing to school-wide development.
- Actively support whole-school initiatives, including professional development and policy implementation.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community.
The ideal candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a recognised degree and teaching qualification.
- Has at least five years of teaching experience, with leadership or management responsibility.
- Is confident teaching computer science at IGCSE and A level.
- Demonstrates excellent classroom practice, innovative pedagogy, and effective use of technology.
- Can analyse data to drive student achievement.
- Has strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with high emotional intelligence.
- Communicates fluently in spoken and written English.
- Is passionate about education and committed to the welfare and development of students.
- Experience teaching international students or familiarity with the English National Curriculum is an advantage.
