Job role

  1. Prepare site safety policies and establish clear safety objectives.
  2. Ensure full compliance with all government legislation and company standards related to health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  3. Coordinate risk assessment studies, including THA (Task Hazard Analysis), PHA (Preliminary Hazard Analysis), and HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Studies), and implement appropriate control measures to minimize risks.
  4. Organize and chair SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) meetings to address site safety concerns.
  5. Conduct timely safety and environmental induction training programs for newly recruited managers and employees.
  6. Plan and execute general safety and environmental awareness and promotional activities for employees.
  7. Ensure all accidents, damage, and near-miss incidents are thoroughly investigated and that corrective actions are implemented.
  8. Analyze accident data to identify trends and areas for improvement and implement preventive measures.
  9. Prepare and circulate accident statistics to senior management in a timely manner.
  10. Ensure all emergency equipment (e.g., firefighting equipment, first aid facilities, personal protective equipment) is regularly inspected and maintained.
  11. Ensure the provision of appropriate safety tools, equipment, and protective clothing, and promote their proper usage.
  12. Maintain and regularly update the site SHE documentation and library.
  13. Implement and maintain an environmental management system aligned with ISO 14001 standards.
  14. Develop and update site policies related to safety and environmental management.
  15. Identify and evaluate significant environmental impacts associated with site operations.
  16. Plan and implement programs to minimize adverse environmental impacts.
  17. Monitor, review, and continuously improve health, safety, and environmental systems and processes, while ensuring consistent implementation across all Cargills Food & Beverage and Cargills Confectioneries factory locations.
  18. Provide feedback to the management on necessary provisions for employee health, safety, and welfare.
  19. Any other projects or tasks as requested by the management.

Candidate requirements

  1. Passionate about Sri Lanka; you’re committed to making a positive impact for our country and its people.
  2. Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in human resource management, administration or occupational health & safety or a related field.
  3. Certificate course or diploma in occupational health & safety from a recognized institute is mandatory.
  4. Certificate course or diploma in environmental studies or sustainability will be an added advantage.
  5. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant or similar role within the food & beverage, manufacturing, production, or FMCG sectors.
  6. Sound knowledge of health & safety practices, HR and labor laws in Sri Lanka.
  7. Good communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office / Microsoft 365 applications.
  8. Ability to multitask effectively, with excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  9. Willingness to work from our factory located in Katana and travel to other locations as required. This is for our Cargills Food & Beverage company.
