Main responsibilities
- Support the achievement of budgeted gross written premium (GWP) targets while maintaining planned profitability and the combined operating ratio (COR).
- Ensure the timely issuance of quotations and policies in line with underwriting standards.
- Oversee and supervise all underwriting practices and procedures related to the general insurance division.
- Manage and coordinate pre-underwriting survey activities carried out by the risk management department and/or outsourced service providers.
- Perform administrative duties and handle matters relevant to general underwriting operations.
- Develop and implement personal development plans for team members to support effective succession planning within the department.
- Continuously train general insurance staff, including branch staff, on work procedures, guidelines, and emerging insurance practices.
- Optimize staff resources to achieve results effectively and efficiently while maintaining high motivation levels.
- Recommend appropriate training and development programs for subordinates as and when required.
- Assign key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct performance appraisals (PA) for relevant subordinates within stipulated timelines.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by management from time to time in line with competencies to meet business requirements.
Qualifications & pre-requisites
- Masters degree / degree / special degree / professional qualification (ACII/FCII) or equivalent related to the functional area from a university grants commission approved university / institute.
- Overall, more than 15 years of experience in the insurance industry within general insurance, including at least 10 years in a senior managerial role.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
- Proven marketing and negotiation skills.
- Excellent people management and customer handling skills.
- Ability to work with patience and tolerance for ambiguity.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Age should be below 50 years.
