About the role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented SMSF specialist to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs), ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and delivering high-quality service to clients.

Key responsibilities

  1. Prepare SMSF financial statements and annual accounts.
  2. Prepare SMSF annual returns and supporting workpapers.
  3. Process and reconcile fund transactions, including contributions, pensions, rollovers, investments, and benefit payments.
  4. Ensure compliance with SIS legislation, ATO requirements, and other regulatory obligations.
  5. Liaise with trustees, auditors, financial advisers, and accountants regarding fund matters.
  6. Prepare pension documentation and member reports.
  7. Monitor compliance issues and identify potential breaches.
  8. Assist with SMSF establishment, restructuring, and wind-up processes.
  9. Maintain accurate client records and documentation.
  10. Stay informed of changes in superannuation legislation and industry developments.

Skills and experience

  1. Previous experience in SMSF accounting and administration.
  2. Strong knowledge of SMSF compliance and superannuation legislation.
  3. Experience with SMSF software such as Class Super, BGL Simple Fund 360, or similar platforms.
  4. Sound understanding of Australian taxation and accounting principles.
  5. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong communication and client relationship management abilities.
  7. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  1. Degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  2. CPA, CA, IPA qualification or progress towards professional accreditation is desirable.
  3. Previous experience in a public practice accounting firm is preferred.
