Main responsibilities

  1. Support the achievement of budgeted gross written premium (GWP) targets while maintaining planned profitability and the combined operating ratio (COR).
  2. Ensure the timely issuance of quotations and policies in line with underwriting standards.
  3. Oversee and supervise all underwriting practices and procedures related to the general insurance division.
  4. Manage and coordinate pre-underwriting survey activities carried out by the risk management department and/or outsourced service providers.
  5. Perform administrative duties and handle matters relevant to general underwriting operations.
  6. Develop and implement personal development plans for team members to support effective succession planning within the department.
  7. Continuously train general insurance staff, including branch staff, on work procedures, guidelines, and emerging insurance practices.
  8. Optimize staff resources to achieve results effectively and efficiently while maintaining high motivation levels.
  9. Recommend appropriate training and development programs for subordinates as and when required.
  10. Assign key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct performance appraisals (PA) for relevant subordinates within stipulated timelines.
  11. Carry out any additional duties assigned by management from time to time in line with competencies to meet business requirements.

Qualifications & pre-requisites

  1. Masters degree / degree / special degree / professional qualification (ACII/FCII) or equivalent related to the functional area from a university grants commission approved university / institute.
  2. Overall, more than 15 years of experience in the insurance industry within general insurance, including at least 10 years in a senior managerial role.
  3. Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  4. Proven marketing and negotiation skills.
  5. Excellent people management and customer handling skills.
  6. Ability to work with patience and tolerance for ambiguity.
  7. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  8. Age should be below 50 years.
