Sous Chef

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Sous Chef for our cafe in Arugam Bay. Reporting to the head chef, your role will cover the responsibilities of food preparation and operations as well as stock keeping. You need to be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment catering to an average of 200 pax for breakfast and lunch. You should be able to maintain a hygienic kitchen and ensure stock rotation and minimum wastage is followed at all times. Previous experience of 2-3 years in a similar setting is a must and a firm grasp of English and Sinhala is needed.

Responsibilities

  1. Food preparation – Planning and coordinating daily operations of food preparation
  2. Ensuring menus, food standards, procedures and processes are followed
  3. Maintaining a clean, compliant and efficient kitchen, including HACCP food safety systems. Keeping all working areas clean and tidy as well as ensuring all equipment is maintained, serviced and cleaned.
  4. Assist with ordering necessary food items according to business needs and demands.

Requirements

  1. Have a minimum of 2 years of experience
  2. Ability to work efficiently in a busy, high-pressure environment
  3. Strong teamwork and communication skills
  4. Hard-working, reliable and punctual
  5. Ability to maintain consistency during busy service periods
  6. Have an experience in safe food handling
  7. Have food stock control and ordering knowledge
  8. Be extremely hygienic and presentable
