HR Manager

About the role

Sumathi Universal is seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Manager to lead and drive our human resources function. This is a pivotal role for a results-oriented professional who is passionate about building strong teams, nurturing talent, and shaping a high-performance culture.

Key responsibilities

1. Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with Sumathi Universal’s business objectives.
2. Lead the full recruitment lifecycle — from workforce planning and job posting to interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
3. Design and manage performance appraisal systems to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
4. Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary procedures in compliance with labour laws.
5. Manage compensation and benefits programmes, ensuring competitiveness and equity.
6. Develop and deliver training and development initiatives to build organisational capability.
7. Maintain accurate HR records, ensure data integrity, and produce reports for senior leadership.
8. Drive employee engagement initiatives and support a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
9. Ensure compliance with all applicable employment legislation and HR best practices.
10. Partner with department heads to provide strategic HR advice and support business decisions.

Qualifications & experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
2. Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
3. Professional HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
4. Solid knowledge of Sri Lankan labour law and HR compliance requirements.

2. Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Proficiency in HRIS platforms and MS Office Suite.
5. High level of discretion, confidentiality, and professional integrity.
6. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
