Cost Controller

Key responsibilities

1. Develop, maintain, and monitor project or departmental budgets to ensure actual costs do not exceed estimates.
2. Identify and investigate significant deviations between budgeted and actual costs, providing detailed “why?” reports to management.
3. Conduct regular physical audits of inventory and fixed assets to prevent loss, waste, or misappropriation.
4. Review purchase requisitions and vendor contracts to negotiate better pricing and terms.
5. Calculate product/service margins and labor costs, and update standard costs in the ERP system.
6. Periodically audit internal workflows (e.g., waste management in a kitchen or material usage on a job site) to identify inefficiencies.

Required qualifications

1. Diploma / bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or industrial engineering. A CMA (certified management accountant) certification is highly preferred.
2. 3-5 years in cost accounting, budgeting, or financial controlling.
3. Advanced excel (power query, data modeling) and experience with cost management modules in ERPs like Opera.
4. The ability to look at a spreadsheet and see the operational story behind the numbers.
5. A minimum of one year of experience in the same role is required.
