About the company
We are a BOI-approved, export-oriented, horticulture-based company, established in Sri Lanka in 1997 and recognized as world leaders in our field. We require the services of a dynamic, results-oriented individual with a proven track record in managing construction projects, ideally for high-quality production facilities. We produce and export live plants on a just-in-time basis; thus, our new tissue culture facility must be built to precise standards, with efficient, well-coordinated operations.
We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join our team as Project Manager. The successful candidate will lead the planning, construction, and commissioning of our new state-of-the-art tissue culture facility, coordinating internal and external stakeholders and ensuring timely delivery within budget.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and follow comprehensive project plans and schedules for the construction projects, including design, procurement, and commissioning phases.
- Manage the project budget and provide financial oversight, including cost estimation, procurement, and cost control to prevent overruns.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders to ensure the facility meets all specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor construction progress, conduct site inspections, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality control procedures.
- Oversee procurement and installation of specialized equipment, materials, and utilities required for tissue culture laboratories and controlled environments.
- Prepare regular progress reports, maintain project documentation, and communicate updates to senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, project management, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as PMP or membership in a recognized engineering body will be an advantage.
- At least 5-8 years of experience managing construction projects, with a track record of delivering high-quality industrial or laboratory facilities on schedule and within budget.
- Experience working with the design and construction of controlled environment facilities (e.g., laboratories, clean rooms, or greenhouses) will be a distinct advantage.
Experience
- Proven ability to develop and manage project budgets and schedules, and coordinate with multiple contractors and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and quality control processes, and the ability to enforce them.
- Experience in resource management, procurement, contract negotiation, and risk management.
- Knowledge of horticulture or tissue culture processes will be a plus, but is not mandatory.
Skills & competencies
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills in English – both written and spoken.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project or similar) and basic computer applications such as MS Excel.
