Operations Manager
Grassie Operations (Pvt) Ltd is establishing a new dried mango processing facility in Ja-Ela, Sri Lanka, and is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the business through its setup phase and into full production. A unique opportunity to build an export-oriented food processing operation from the ground up — and continue leading it as a permanent member of the management team.
The role
Phase 1: Contract (setup phase)
- Oversee warehouse refit and commissioning of the processing line, working with engineers, contractors, and consultants
- Liaise with Sri Lankan authorities to secure export licenses, food permits, and product certifications
- Identify and develop relationships with mango suppliers — farmers, cooperatives, aggregators
- Lead recruitment and onboarding of operational staff ahead of production
- Coordinate with external lawyers, accountants, and consultants on company setup, contracts, and compliance
- Source equipment, packaging, and and raw materials
Phase 2: Full-time (production phase)
- Manage day-to-day facility operations and directly supervise production workers, technicians, drivers, and accounting staff
- Implement and maintain quality control across raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods
- Maintain food safety certifications and manage internal/external audits (HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP)
- Oversee equipment maintenance to minimise downtime
- Continue managing supplier, regulatory, and professional service relationships
- Monitor output, costs, and KPIs; drive continuous improvement in productivity and yield
Candidate profile
Minimum requirements
- Sri Lankan national
- Proficiency in English and Sinhala (written and spoken)
- Prior work experience in food processing or manufacturing
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience as a manager or senior staff role
- Willing to be based on-site at Ja-Ela and hands-on through both phases
Desired experience
- Background in food processing, agribusiness, or regulated manufacturing
- Knowledge of Sri Lankan licensing requirements for food production and export
- Experience with facility setup, fit-out, or commissioning projects
- Familiarity with HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP or equivalent
- Experience building agricultural supplier relationships
- Tamil proficiency is an additional advantage
