HALO specialises e the removal of Me debris of war and employs almost 10,000 staff in 28 countries. All programmes are supported by a headquarters in the UK.

HALO began operations in Sri Lanka in 2002, undertaking an extensive minefield survey. This survey provided much of the baseline minefield data now held in the national database and was the basis for the decision for HALO to set-up a large humanitarian mine clearance programme. Currently, HALO Sri Lanka employs over 1,300 local staff, who work as skilled survey/Explasive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, alongside manual and mechanical mine clearance staff, and support staff HALO’s operations are focussed on the Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts. Duties and responsibilities:

The GIS Officer is primarily responsible for the management, maintenance a. analysis of programme operational data, and Me production of accurate, informative mapping to assist humanitarian demining operations. Solid information management is fundamental to HALO mine action operations —the GIS Officer is the means by which HALO’s operational activities are properly recorded, processed, analyzed and disseminated. The GIS Officer will, after training, be expected to fully grasp the range of HALO mine action operational activities a. the relevant data a. information produced. The IM/GIS Manager reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Salary: 84,000 per month (after tax, EPF and ETF)
Reports: GIS Manager
Location: Kilinochchi
Works closely with: all HALO staff, including senior management and GIS team.
Working hours: 08.00 to 16.00 hrs in week days and 08.00 13.00 hrs on Saturdays.

The GIS Officer is responsible for:

  • Support field operations with training, data, maps and GIS tools.
  • Support field teams with the setup and use of ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, and Trimble GNSS receivers.
  • Conduct the QA & QC of spatial data coming from the field to ensure the data is fit for the purpose.
  • Produce GIS mapping products for the programme management and reporting.
  • Maintain GIS web maps and feature services and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Maintain Survey123 and ArcGIS Field Maps offline maps for use in the field by operations teams.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly reports.
  • Prepare and maintain clearance progress maps, forecasting tools, task trackers, and hosted tables on the GIS portal.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, the National Mine Action Centre (NMAC), and SLA military personnel.
  • Perform any other related GIS duties as required,
